Qualifications through placement or a grade of C or better in MATH 112 or MATH 115. In May we started using a new, online Mathematics Placement Test (MPT).

Course Structure and Grading Policies

Homework problems will be assigned at the end of each lecture. However, they will not be collected and graded. Your final score for the course will be computed as follows:
  • Computer Labs: 15% of the course grade.

  • Quizzes: 20% of the course grade. Only the 10 best scores are counted.
    A ten-minute quiz will be given during the problem session. There will be no make-up quizzes, since only the best 10 grades count towards the course grade.
  • Midterms: each test counts 15%, for a total of 45% of the course grade.
    There will be three in-class midterm exams scheduled as follows:

    No make-up tests will be given. Only medical, death in the family, religious or official USC business reasons are valid excuses for missing a test and must be verified by letter from a doctor, guardian or supervisor to the instructor.

    The final exam is scheduled on Wednesday, December 11, from 9:00 PM to 12:00 noon

  • The Math Tutoring Center is a free tutoring service for MATH 111, 115, 122, 141, 142, 170, 221, 222, and 241. When we are busy, preference is given to students seeking help in the 100-level courses. No appointment is necessary. It opens on Tuesday, September 2nd and our hours will be: Monday - Thursday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM (LeConte 105) Monday - Thursday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Bates House) Monday - Thursday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Columbia Hall) Monday - Thursday 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Sims) The evening locations are all located in campus residence halls, but students may use any location regardless of where they live.
